DURF is responsible for the social profiling of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. It supports the university's external relationship management, and serves as the home base for initiatives from VUvereniging.
The objectives of VU Amsterdam are focused on education for students and professionals, research, knowledge valorisation, and diversity. Key tasks for DURF in supporting these ambitions include the development and strengthening of fundraising.
Additionally, DURF is the central hub for contact with the VU alumni community, a global and diverse network of more than 150,000 graduates. DURF also coordinates all activities of VUvereniging, a social network for everyone who feels connected to Vrije Universiteit or Amsterdam UMC.
Corporate events
From the four profile themes of VU (Human Health and Life Sciences, Science for Sustainability, Connected World, and Governance for Society), DURF organises corporate events such as the Dies Natalis and the Opening of the Academic Year.
During these events, important VU initiatives that align with these themes are highlighted, bringing together different ranks of the VU community. Also, Déjà VU, the annual summer festival in June for students, staff, and alumni, fosters connections among all target groups.
Teams
DURF employs over 20 staff in a composition of four teams:
- Fundraising
- Social Engagement
- VUvereniging
- Relationship Management
They are professionals in fundraising, alumni relations, communications, events, relationship management, board support, finance and human resources. For larger projects, the team is supported by student assistants and self-employed professionals.
