Facilities and Services for the Graduate School of Humanities

VUnetID and Library Access

All funded PhD candidates receive a VUnetID which gives access to all the databases and electronic Journals to which the VU library subscribes, WIFI, SURFspot, diverse software programs, and free coffee and tea. The VUnetID also gives access and a login for VU computers. Self-funded PhD candidates receive a VUnetID after the StopGo assessment.

However, only funded PhD candidates have access to the Self-Service Portal. Amongst others, it allows one to submit reimbursement requests and report ill or pregnant. Here you may also view your personal information and salary specification.

VU Profile

All PhD candidates with a VUnetID can create an online research profile on the VU website via the VU Research Portal.

Office Space

At the Faculty of Humanities, PhD candidates are assigned to the department of their main supervisor and these departments are responsible for providing office space to PhD candidates.

International PhD Candidates

The International Office provides help and support to international PhD candidates, amongst others with regard to visa and immigration formalities and housing. The International Office also regularly  organizes the two week online Bridging Programme aimed to better prepare new incoming (international and Dutch) PhD candidates for their PhD trajectories. The programme counts on the participation of professors from the Graduate School of Social Sciences, VU Library as well as CIS-Center for International Cooperation.

PhD Council

The VU PhD council advocates for the interests of internal and external VU PhD candidates. It aims at improving social and professional interplay within the PhD trajectory of VU PhD candidates and is concerned with organizational developments affecting the VU PhDs. The VU PhD council aims to bring relevant information to the attention of the VU PhDs, notably PhD rights and opportunities.
