We offer Bachelor and Master programmes, as well as a pre-Master programme. In 2024 our MSc in Social and Cultural Anthropology was ranked top in the country in the National Studentds Survey. Several times over the recent years, our programmes have been ranked at the top of anthropology programmes in the Netherlands.
As department we put emphasis on the learning of our students. Our teaching is distinguished by a personalised approach and its broad focus, with the whole world as our 'field'. In our teaching we work to activise students to take initiatives within the curriculum. In this way, they can shape their own studies and personal development.
To enrich the curriculum, we make use of student diversity according to the VU Mixed Classroom Education Model. Furthermore, attention into ‘applying anthropology’ in practice enables our students to learn and use the professional skills of the science.
