GMAT® (Graduate Management Admission Test)

Have you completed your bachelor, but you don’t meet the entry requirements for direct admission to the pre-masters? You can still be admitted if you take a GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) and obtain the required score. The GMAT is in English and gives insight in the problem-solving, critical thinking and data analytical skills of an upcoming student. This test, developed and offered by an independent institute, is used by universities and business schools worldwide.

As of February 1, 2024 you can (only) register for the new GMAT Focus Edition. You must achieve a total score of 525 or higher to qualify for the pre-master. Have you taken the previous version of GMAT? Then you must have obtained a score of 550 or higher. Your test score must not be older than 5 years.

PREPARATION & PLANNING

To obtain the required score, you need to prepare well. The exact amount of preparation time you need varies per person. There are various (online) tools and courses available to support you. VU Amsterdam itself does not offer a preparation course.

Make sure you plan your GMAT in time. Take into account a possible resit and the mandatory waiting time (16 calendar days) between your first test and the resit. Please be aware that it may take up to 20 working days for your official score to be passed on to School of Business and Economics (VU). If your official score is not received by the application deadline, your application will unfortunately be rejected. No exceptions are made to this.

TEST

You can take the GMAT both on location and online. It takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, the test consists of 64 questions divided into 3 parts:

  • Quantitative reasoning (21 questions, 45 minutes)
  • Verbal reasoning (23 questions, 45 minutes)
  • Data insights (20 questions, 45 minutes)

Your results on these components form your total score. This must be at least 525 for admission to the pre-master. For all information about exam dates, registration and costs, see ‘GMAT Register’.

SCORE

You will receive an email once your official score report is available in your GMAT account. You can have your official score submitted to School of Business and Economics (VU) for free within 48 hours of receiving your official score. If you want to have your score passed on to us after this period, there will be costs involved.

The official score must be received by us no later than January 31, provisional scores will not be accepted by the admission board. So make sure you give permission to pass on your 'Official Report Score' to School of Business and Economics (VU)! The code is: 289 VU- School of Business and Economics.

Check for all information about your score  ‘Understanding your score’.
