The inaugural research workshop, From Globalization, Regionalization, to Slowbalization: What Implications for Business Decisions?, took place on December 2, 2022, in Amsterdam. Co-organized by VU Amsterdam and ESCP Business School, the event featured a dynamic mix of sessions designed to foster discussion and collaboration. Highlights included keynote addresses, a panel discussion on disseminating IB theories and findings, and ample opportunities for informal networking.
We were honored to welcome Prof. Dr. Jean-Francois Hennart (Tilburg School of Economics and Management) and Prof. Dr. Stefan Schmid (ESCP Business School, Berlin) for two insightful keynote speeches. Jean-Francois explored Four Faulty Assumptions in International Business Strategy, while Stefan provided an overview of the current state of globalization research.
This was followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring Dr. Brian Pinkham and Dr. Mirko Benischke (Rotterdam School of Management), Prof. Dr. Régis Coeurderoy (ESCP Business School, Paris), Dr. Oli Mihalache (VU Amsterdam), and Dr. Valérie Duplat (VU Amsterdam). The panelists shared their perspectives on emerging research avenues and publication strategies.
The workshop also provided a platform for early-career faculty and PhD students to present their ongoing research projects, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and insights.

Building on the success of the first edition, the second VU Amsterdam and ESCP Business School research workshop, From Globalization, Regionalization to Slowbalization: What Implications for Business Decisions?, took place on December 8, 2023, in Amsterdam.
We were delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Xavier Martin (Tilburg School of Economics and Management) and Dr. Mirko Benischke (Rotterdam School of Management) for two compelling keynote addresses.
A stimulating panel discussion followed, featuring Dr. Yu Liu (Rotterdam School of Management), Dr. Vittoria Scalera (University of Amsterdam), Prof. Dr. Christian Schwens (University of Cologne), and Prof. Dr. Florian Zapkau (WU Vienna). The panelists shared their insights on emerging research avenues and publication strategies in international business.
As in the previous edition, the workshop provided a platform for early-career faculty and PhD students to present their ongoing research projects. The day was once again marked by lively discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of the business implications of evolving globalization patterns.

The third edition of the Research Day on Globalization took place on November 29, 2024, at the ESCP Business School – Montparnasse Campus in Paris. This year’s event provided an exciting platform for scholars to exchange insights on the evolving strategies of multinational enterprises in an increasingly complex global landscape.
We were honored to welcome Prof. Alain Verbeke (University of Calgary) for the opening keynote, where he revisited regional and global strategies of MNEs two decades after the influential work of Rugman and Verbeke (2004). This was followed by a stimulating panel discussion with experts from Europe, North America, China, and Japan, who shared diverse perspectives on globalization and regionalization: Xia Han (University of Manchester), Ulrike Mayrhofer (IAE Nice, Université Côte d'Azur), Oli Mihalache (VU Amsterdam and Vlerick Business School) and Hinrich Voss (University of Bristol).
The afternoon sessions showcased ongoing paper projects across three research tracks: (1) Digitalization and Servitization in International Business, (2) Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility, and (3) Internationalization Strategies in a Challenging World.
We were also delighted to host Prof. Xavier Martin (Tilburg University) for an insightful discussion on replication research in IB, followed by a closing keynote by Prof. Jean-Luc Arregle (Emlyon Business School) on the semi-globalization of multinational companies.
Additionally, the day before, Jean-François Hennart (Tilburg University) will lead a PhD workshop on conducting impactful research in International Business and International Management.
With ample opportunities for networking over coffee, lunch, and dinner, the event fostered engaging discussions and meaningful collaborations. We were thrilled to welcome participants to Paris for a thought-provoking and enriching days!
