Art at VU Amsterdam

Driven by a deep curiosity, artists and scientists investigate life and our environment on fundamental levels. VU Amsterdam encourages the interaction between science and art. It is precisely the combination of knowledge and experience that creates a deeper understanding of man and his environment.

The VU ART SCIENCE gallery is located in the New University Building. Here you can visit exhibitions and events that focus on the exchange between art and science.

Since the 1960s, VU Amsterdam has built up an art collection of about 1,200 works that you can come across all over campus.

VU Amsterdam is a member of the Netherlands Association of Corporate Art Collections.

Location-based assignments

Some works were developed specifically for a location. For example, the work Cytopia by artist Pinar Yoldas in the O|2 Lab building, focused on Life Sciences. The artwork offers a different perspective on cell division.
