ReSCU - Ambitions and Activities

Getting Started: Acquisition

Our journey begins with a simple idea: support and growth. We know that researchers need the right skills and support to succeed. So, we offer grant writing classes to early-career researchers. These classes not only provide short-term support but also foster connections among labs, making grant writing skills accessible to all. We also teach researchers how to communicate their work effectively to different audiences.

This way, connections are formed, ideas bloom, and confidence grows, leading to more successful grant applications and the creation of collaborative cohorts ready to tackle ReSCU challenges.

  • Moving Forward

Mid and senior-career researchers are motivated to join us for writing retreats, guided by experienced coaches. These retreats offer support, expectedly leading to an increase in grant applications, while pinpointing priority themes and creating a space for networking and brainstorming. This includes shut-up-and-write sessions where researchers transform ideas into impactful projects.

  • The Big Picture

ReSCU research is aimed at and fuelled by grant applications, allowing for academic reputation to grow stronger and making the ReSCU Lab become synonymous with research excellence in resilience, security, and civil unrest. Our collaborative publications benefit both academia and society, while ReSCU mentorship programs and research project management training nurture the next generation of researchers.

  • Exploring Connections: Research Networking and Seed-Funding

In our navigation of the sea of knowledge, we "gather the clans" of different ReSCU-themes oriented researchers from various disciplinary backgrounds through meet-and-greet events, buddying system, conferences, and shut-up-and-write sessions that foster fruitful relationships and interdisciplinary research. Community-based working leads to community-based work, including books and journal articles that enriching both academia and a wider audience.

  • Planting Seeds: Seed Funding for Pilot Studies

To cultivate innovation, we provide seed funding for which proposal are written and considered. Such seed funding supports collaborative pilot studies with societal impact and encourages consortium building (events). Also through conferences, collaborative projects, and knowledge sharing, ReSCU maintains a robust research network.

  • Connecting Beyond: Intervalorization

Intervalorization is our bridge to a broader audience, establishing an online and (social) media presence. By workshops on how to valorise research, ReSCU organises activities to teach researchers how to communicate their research effectively, also to non-academic audiences. In-house research communication training empowers early-career researchers.

Moreover, by building bridges with stakeholders, we bring together policymakers, NGOs, and researchers, also by offering accessible research outputs to reach practitioners. Collaboration with journalists amplifies our reach, making our research accessible to all, positioning ReSCU as the go-to authority on research on resilience, security and civil unrest.
