Am I admissible with my professional education (HBO) propaedeutic or diploma?

Proof of completion of your previous education

VU Amsterdam will send you a message when you need to submit proof of completion of your previous education or proof of the subjects you passed at pre-university final-exam level. The following documents are accepted:

• Digital certificate from the register of diplomas awarded. Download the certificate from www.mijndiplomas.nl and email the digital certificate to studentdesk@vu.nl. You cannot submit a printed version of the certificate, as a printout is not valid.

• Certified copy of diploma. Send the document by post (Student Administration, De Boelelaan 1105, 1081 HV Amsterdam, The Netherlands). You can also visit the Student Desk to have your diploma certified (VU Main Building, ground floor). Bring the original diploma and a copy with you. Please note: do not submit original documents, as these will not be returned.

• Confirmation of graduation letter. Request this from your current educational institution. The confirmation letter must state the study programme and the examination date, and must be signed by the Examination Board. Send the original by post (Student Administration, De Boelelaan 1105, 1081 HV Amsterdam, The Netherlands) or bring it to the Student Desk (VU Main Building, ground floor).

• Certificate of subjects passed at pre-university final-exam level. Send the original document by post (Student Administration, De Boelelaan 1105, 1081 HV Amsterdam, The Netherlands). You can also visit the Student Desk (VU Main Building, ground floor).

HBO propaedeutic or diploma awarded in August

Will you be awarded your HBO propaedeutic or HBO diploma in August? If so, submit an original confirmation of graduation letter as soon as possible.

Extra information

• You apply for the Bachelor's programme of your choice in Studielink. HBO propaedeutic and HBO diplomas are not included in the previous education list. You register your HBO propaedeutic or diploma in Studielink by clicking on ‘Other’. You can then enter the details of your HBO.

• You may receive a message from DUO that you lack a number of prerequisites (deficiencies), even though you meet the admission requirements. This occurs when you have been awarded an HBO propaedeutic diploma after having been awarded a senior general secondary education (HAVO) diploma and you also enter the latter under 'Previous education'.
  
  When this is the case, we recommend that you enter only an education from an institution of professional education (HBO) under 'Previous education'. If you do receive the notification, you will receive a notification containing the next steps in the procedure, so that you can still prove that you have an HBO diploma.
