The VU Study Choice Check applies to everyone who registers for the first year of a Bachelor’s programme. If you registered for several Bachelor's programmes at VU Amsterdam, you must complete the full Study Choice Check for all Bachelor's programmes. Please visit the webpage of your study programme for more information on the activities and requirements of the Study Choice Check.
What is VU Study Choice Check?
The VU Study Choice Check in 2 steps:
The VU Study Choice Check consists of two steps for almost all Bachelor's programmes at VU Amsterdam:
- A digital questionnaire: do your interests and talents match the study program and do you have the right skills? After completing it, you will receive a personal advice report reflect on your choice of study. The digital questionnaire is not a selection tool. You cannot be rejected from a study program because of your answers. However, completing the questionnaire is mandatory. To complete the questionnaire you will need a VUnetID. You will receive this one or two days after you have enrolled in the study program. Therefore, please note that the questionnaire is available until August 31
- Activity: most study programmes offer an (online) or campus activity in addition to the questionnaire. The activity gives you a realistic picture of the programme. For more information on whether your programme offers an activity, and whether participation is compulsory, go to your study programme page.
How does it work?
After registration (in Studielink), we first ask you to complete a digital questionnaire to reflect on your study choice. You will then be invited by email for the programme's activity. For more information on whether your programme offers an activity, and whether participation is compulsory, go to your study programme page.
To register, follow the step-by-step plan for Bachelor’s programmes using the VU Study Choice Check.

I have completed the digital questionnaire but there is no green tick on the registration page.
The VU Study Choice Check consists of a digital questionnaire. In addition, many study programmes offer an (online) or campus activity. This means that for many study programmes, you have to complete both parts before the green tick appears under your "status".
If you have completed both parts and there is still no green tick, please contact the student desk at 020 598 5020 or studentenbalie@vu.nl.
If your study programme does not offer an activity and you don't have a green tick even though you completed the digital questionnaire, please contact the student desk at 020 598 5020 or studentenbalie@vu.nl.
-
I get a reminder to fill in the digital questionnaire, but I have already done so/the questionnaire freezes. What should I do?
Contact the Student Desk at 020 598 5020 or studentenbalie@vu.nl.
-
I didn’t receive the report from the digital questionnaire, did something go wrong?
You will receive the report of the digital questionnaire at the email address you entered in Studielink. Also check your spam folder. The report can also be downloaded after completion via My study details> Complete registration for new study programme > Overview of your registrations > Continue/view registration > Study choice check: questionnaire > Start study choice check questionnaire > Download report.
You can download the report at My Study Details until September.
-
What should I consider if a Study Choice Check activity is compulsory?
If you register before 1 May, any study advice you receive will not be binding. You may then start your study programme anyway, provided you have met all other enrolment conditions. You can also register after 1 May. The programme will then determine whether you may start. The results of the digital questionnaire will not be taken into account.
