VU teacher Jos Akkermans on active blended learning

Last updated on 15 August 2024
Students develop scientifically substantiated solutions to real-life problems - active blended learning according to Jos Akkermans, Associate Professor Recruitment & Selection at the School of Business and Economics.

His practical example is about activating students by getting them involved in a pressing practical problem by interviewing a client. They then delve into the literature to find the latest scientific knowledge and, based on that, propose solutions to the client. They do this by presenting the main points in a short video (knowledge clip) during a final meeting with the client. During the presentation, discussion takes place between the students and the clients, led by the lecturers. In this way, reading literature and doing assignments becomes directly relevant and meaningful.
