What can you visit the occupational health physician for?

Last updated on 14 August 2024
You can go to the company doctor for a preventive consultation and sickness absence.

Preventing occupational disability

You can make an appointment with the occupational health physician by contacting the Health, Safety and Environment reception desk (secretariaat.amd@vu.nl, +31 20 59 89008).

Health, Safety and the Environment does not have an acute crisis shelter function or treatment options.

Preventive consultation

A preventive consultation is a strictly confidential consultation, designed to prevent incapacity for work and to get advice on (the interaction between) health and working conditions. You can make your own appointment for a preventive consultation with the company doctor if you want advice on preventing incapacity for work or if you have concerns about aspects in your work (circumstances) and your health. Think, for example, of problems at work, work (attitude) related complaints or addiction, a chronic illness or treatment, private problems or pregnancy.

Sick leave

If you have reported sick and are partially or fully unfit for work, you and your manager will maintain regular contact throughout the process of return to work (reintegration). In case of sick leave, you can make an appointment for the company doctor's consultation hours for absence counselling and to ask for advice on your possibilities and limitations with regard to work.

In case of long-term absence (> 4 weeks), you will also be contacted by Health, Safety and Environment to make an appointment with the company doctor. As long as the incapacity for work lasts, follow-up appointments will be scheduled for absenteeism counselling and the company doctor will advise you and your manager by means of a consultation.

The company doctor is bound by medical confidentiality, so a consultation only concerns advice on possibilities and limitations with regard to work and to support the reintegration.
