During its 12th edition on October 13, 2023, the 'Burning Business Quest' revealed the untapped potential of students in the Digital Business and Innovation program, offering a glimpse into the future of digital innovation.

The 12th edition of the 'Burning Business Quest' showcased the immense potential of young minds ready to tackle your digital innovation challenges. Organized by the Digital Business and Innovation program at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in collaboration with the KIN Center for Digital Innovation, this event brought together 18 student teams to present their groundbreaking ideas and solutions.

What made this event truly special was the creativity, passion, and sense of responsibility exhibited by these teams as they delivered their pitches. Their groundbreaking ideas were thoughtfully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), leaving a lasting impression on the audience and the discerning 'dragons'—esteemed judges.

A heartfelt acknowledgment to the dedicated teachers, Bart van den Hooff and Frans Feldberg, who guided and mentored these students, nurturing their potential to make meaningful contributions in the digital business and innovation landscape.

Deloitte Netherlands played a pivotal role in making this event a grand success, hosting it at their magnificent venue. The breathtaking view from the 14th floor, overlooking Amsterdam and the Zuidas district, added to the inspiring atmosphere.

The 'dragons' – Hester Wiarda (chair), Michiel Mulder, Joshua Vink, and Stephanie V. –were faced with the arduous task of selecting a single winning team from a pool of exceptional talent. The victorious 'OculAI' deserves recognition, but it is essential to also acknowledge and appreciate the unwavering hard work and dedication of all participating teams, as they collectively presented a glimpse into the future of digital innovation.

The realization of this event wouldn't have been possible without the support and contributions of numerous individuals. Notable alumni like Esmee van Waalwijk van Doorn, Merel van Gerven, and Derron Whitbread played pivotal roles in co-organizing the Burning Business Quest. Derron Whitbread, a Deloitte consultant, generously shared valuable insights and experiences. Additionally, Sjors Broersen shed light on the practical application of Generative AI, enriching the students' knowledge. The Q&A panel, which featured Minke Bosch, Dico Defize, Tommaso Tiggeloven, and Merel van Gerven, engaged in lively discussions with the students, offering valuable insights and expanding their horizons.

Collaboration between universities and industry partners is indispensable for nurturing future talents. We extend our heartfelt thanks to those who firmly believe in the value of such collaborations, including Petra Tito, Harvey Christophers, and Emil Kwaaitaal. The 12th Burning Business Quest was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved, a testament to the promising future of digital innovation, and we eagerly anticipate witnessing these talented individuals leave their indelible mark on the industry.
