The inaugural visit, held from October 31 to November 3, 2023, centered around the Centre for Legal Aid and Mediation offices in Huye, Rwanda. This collaborative endeavor aims to create a platform for universities in the same region to exchange ideas, share challenges, and collaboratively devise solutions. The overarching goal is to enhance access to justice, serve communities, and provide experiential learning opportunities for students.
The program's diverse agenda encompassed internal clinic management, law clinic administration, collaborative efforts with students in preparing Codes of Conduct and Operational Manuals, and comprehensive case management and database training.
A highlight of the was the event was the Visiting Mobile Clinics. Participants had the unique opportunity to engage with communities, offering legal advice on both general and specific matters. From observing consultations to actively engaging in client interactions, the training provided a rich learning experience. Participants also delved into case analysis discussions and gained insights into referral systems for situations where clients require legal attention beyond the center's scope.
Generously funded by Nuffic, the training embodies a transformative journey toward collaborative excellence in legal aid and mediation. As this initiative unfolds, the cooperative spirit among participating institutions promises to shape a brighter future for the communities they serve and the students they mentor.
Stay tuned for more updates on this project!
