Tima Bansal is a Professor of Strategy at the Ivey Business School. In the field of business administration, Bansal is known for her contributions to sustainability, qualitative methodology, and her commitment to making science more relevant to practice. Her work, using advanced and often new qualitative methods, has provided important insights into how the dimensions of time, space, and scale influence the way sustainability takes shape in business strategy. This helps companies integrate social and environmental goals with profitability. By founding the Network for Business Sustainability, she has also brought these insights beyond the academic world to companies actively working on—and grappling with—sustainability.
Bansal is awarded the honorary doctorate on the recommendation of the dean of the School of Business and Economics, Arjen van Witteloostuijn. "Tima is a shining example for many scientists in how she contributes to sustainable practices in business through her scientific work, roles in the Academy of Management, and practical initiatives (such as Innovation North)," says Van Witteloostuijn.
