Athena Institute launches book: 'Transdisciplinarity for Transformation'

11 September 2024
The Athena Institute launches an open access book, presenting insights on transdisciplinary work towards societal transformation. The book supports researchers and practitioners to navigate dilemmas inherent in ‘Transdisciplinarity for Transformation’.

The term ‘transdisciplinarity’ often raises questions. What does Transdisciplinary Research behold exactly?

How can we effectively guide transdisciplinary processes while respecting the uniqueness of each situation? How to ensure that everyone’s knowledge is recognized and valued when conditions for truly fair and inclusive participation are not always met? And how do we enact our role as a transdisciplinary researcher when it conflicts with other parts of our identity?

The Athena Institute's newly published open access book addresses these, and many more questions.

Providing guidance for researchers and practitioners
By diving into these quests, the book supports researchers and practitioners, especially those early in their careers, to navigate dilemmas inherent in ‘Transdisciplinarity for Transformation’. It provides theoretical and practical guidance and tools for any field that is open to transformation-oriented collaboration.

Content
The book comprises three sections:

  1. Design & Evaluation;
  2. Diversity & Inclusion;
  3. Roles & Competences

Each section includes a chapter on theoretical advancements, multiple empirical chapters presenting insights from various fields and contexts, and practical guidance conducive to engaging in high-quality, just and equitable transdisciplinary processes directed at sustainable transformation.

Editors
The book was edited by Athena's Barbara Regeer, Pim Klaassen, and Jacqueline Broerse
