Holiday allowance? Be alert for scammers.

21 May 2024
Expecting your holiday money soon? Be alert for scammers and phishing.

There have been reports of scammers using different tricks to scam you, such as phishing emails, fake websites and fake phone calls.

Follow these simple tips to stay safe:

1️⃣ Beware of suspicious emails: Watch out for emails asking for personal or financial information. Legitimate organisations will never ask to share sensitive data via email. Be sceptical of unexpected messages and check the sender's email address for signs of impersonation.

2️⃣ Avoid clicking on suspicious links: Scammers often use cleverly disguised links to direct you to fake websites. Hover your cursor over a (hyper)link to see the actual web address before clicking. When in doubt, it is best to type in the website address directly or use trusted bookmarks.

3️⃣ Check requests for personal information: If you receive a call or message from someone claiming to be an HR representative or payroll representative, be careful. Always check their identity by comparing contact details with official records. Don't be afraid to ask questions to confirm the legitimacy of the request.
