PLAYFUL LEARNING #1: Noise in my head

1 May 2024
An interactive research session on the mental well-being of young people.

On May 17th, the VU is organizing a free interactive research session on the mental well-being of young people together with Pakhuis de Zwijger and Theater DE GASTEN.

How can science contribute to innovation and social change? Can theatre strengthen the social impact of science and vice versa? Let the players of DEGASTEN take you into the minds of young people. They play a number of scenes from CRICKETS, an interactive performance about noise, discomfort and what (secretly) demands attention. Together with the players of this performance about mental health, other young people, scientists and the public, we will discuss: can we collect, process and interpret data in a different way through performance, science and public conversation? Is a story also a measurement? What are we missing if we only look at numbers? With this experimental research we want to stimulate collaboration between art and science in order to make more impact and encourage change.

Lianne Cremers, assistant professor of visual and medical anthropology at Organization Sciences, is one of the speakers. Cremers focuses on the interaction and consequences of long-term crisis situations for human well-being. She combines anthropology, disaster studies and organizational sciences, with a remarkable attention to the voices of vulnerable groups. Cremers integrates creative communication methods such as films and art exhibitions. This original, creative approach connects science and society.
