The Amsterdam Sustainability Institute (ASI) is a network for interdisciplinary sustainability research spanning across all faculties of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the ASI stimulates cooperation between scientists across disciplines within VU and beyond. The institute supports researchers in developing and strengthening relationships with external partners and the users of the knowledge they produce.
The Amsterdam Sustainability Institute consists of a small team that coordinates interdisciplinary research clusters, a yearly seed money programme and organises lectures and networking events, among other projects. It also set up the VU Climate Expertise Centre, a platform for VU’s climate-related research with a strong focus on outreach and impact.
We are looking for a student assistant to support the team in the project management and communications of the institute. Your tasks include but are not limited to
- Supporting the organisation of the SDG Academy lecture series and other events
- Assisting with communication activities across multiple channels
- Writing news items for the website, social media and newsletter
- Organising and updating information and databases
Requirements
- For the duration of your appointment, you are a master student at VU Amsterdam
- You have good oral and written command of the English language (Dutch is not necessary)
- You are interested in or have experience in writing news items, creating content for social media, graphic design and other media skills
- You are coming to VU on a regular basis
What are we offering?
A challenging position in the sustainability field in an academic environment where you can grow your network. The salary for a master’s student for 0.2 FTE is approx. EUR 500 gross. You will be hired for 8 hours per week (0.2 FTE) which you can schedule according to your availability, with a weekly meeting with the ASI team. During our events you are expected to be present and support the ASI team. The starting date is 2 September 2024, and you will be hired until the end of January 2025 with a possible extension until the end of June 2025.
