Why does Jeroen Geurts think inclusive education is so important?

9 April 2024
As part of the Studying with a Disability program, the Studying with a Disability-team started the podcast “Unobstructed Learning at VU” a year ago to raise awareness of this topic. In this new episode, Sita talks to our rector magnificus Jeroen Geurts and Tirza Bosma about inclusive and accessible education at VU.

Why does Jeroen think inclusive education is so important? And how can faculty and staff contribute to it?  Tirza explains what projects are currently underway in the areas of flexibilization, online education and mandatory internships and fieldwork. According to Jeroen, there is room at VU for inclusion and diversity, but it is always a balancing act between solutions, what works for one student should not work against another student. Many teachers do want to make their classes more accessible but are struggling to find the right solutions.

In this episode, we look at ways to build bridges and come up with solutions that work for everyone.
