WO&MEN@VU: March is International Women’s in History Month

Share
19 February 2025
A celebration of the vital role of women in history. Women's contributions and accomplishments have largely been overlooked and consequently omitted from mainstream history.

Amazing women like Jane Austen (1775 - 1817), Florence Nightingale (1820 - 1910), Emmeline Pankhurst (1858-1928), Rosalind Franklin (1920 - 1958), Betje Wolff (1738-1801) and Aagje Deken (1741 – 1804) to name a few, have changed our world. Watch the screen in the university building during the month of March, to learn more about some amazing women.

We will organise a lunch meeting (date tbd) where VU colleague Edwina Hagen will talk about the informal power of diplomate’s wives at the end of the 18th century in various European countries. What do we learn from the letters that they wrote to one another. Read more about gender history (in Dutch).
