Lipidomics

An enormous amount of different types of lipids in cells play a key role in for instance cell membranes, energy storage or are used in signaling pathways. The large-scale study of lipids in biological systems is called lipidomics and involves the analysis of a broad range of lipids.

We are developing lipidomic approaches to study various classes of lipids in cells, rodents, zebrafish and even whales. Studies are conducted to investigate if chemical exposure alters lipid pathways and if these are related to phenotypical, behavior or developmental changes. We are using untargeted and targeted lipidomics approaches to study a broad range of lipids (e.g. fatty acids, PC, PE, PI, PG, PA, LPC, LPE, TAG, DAG, MAG, etc.).
