Arjen ’t Hoen (deputy director of KiM, studied econometrics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam):
"KiM is part of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and provides knowledge for the ministry's mobility policy. We carry out our own research and collect knowledge developed elsewhere. We ensure that the ministry can develop policy with a solid knowledge foundation. We do this by analysing and explaining developments, drawing up explorations and scenarios and analysing the effects of policy instruments.
KiM employs around 30 people, mainly researchers who conduct research in small teams and contribute knowledge to the ministry's policy processes. The researchers have different backgrounds, including economics, geography and traffic engineering. The working atmosphere is informal. At KiM there is a lot of room for own initiative and personal and professional development.
Graduates of the programme are relevant for KiM because they are aware of the interconnection between issues in the field of mobility, economy, space, climate and energy, and they are interested in topics that are in the interest of policy and politics. Moreover, they are experienced with applying quantitative research methods."
