Beginning with the course of my choice, I would like to point out how throughout my bachelor's degree in Economics and Business at the University of Milan Bicocca I discovered the importance that statistical methods and their correct application has in the scientific world. That is why when I was looking for a challenge for my summer I chose to attend the course in Statistical Methods for Causal Inference. The ultimate goal was to study the instruments used to understand causal mechanisms driving the most important events. I'm not going to lie, the course has proved to be challenging but at the same time very rewarding. What I enjoyed the most, apart from Dr Sanchayan mantras and Jack's passion for Coca-Cola, was the lecture environment and the opportunity to see in practice the applications that the tools had.
Coming to the more fun part, I particularly enjoyed the day trip to Utrecht, and in particular the guided tour of the city on the kayaks. Apart from the fact that I was completely wet at the end of it, seeing the city from the perspective of the canals was not only fun, but also enriched the visit with the historical perspective of the medieval time. One friendly advice, read the visit program! Otherwise, you'll find yourself like me doing the 465 steps of the Cathedral's tower without knowing it, even though at the end the view was worth every step. Jokes apart, the VU Summer School was a very nice experience for me, I learned new useful things, made new good friends, and explored new places.
