Association boards

Last updated on 30 October 2024
Are you a board member of a study or student association or do you want to set up your own association? This page helps association boards further along their way.

Recognised organisation

Student Support Regulation

Every university has a student support regulation to aid students who experience a study delay due to special circumstances. This also includes your membership at an association board. Under certain conditions, students can receive a board budget. One of the conditions is that the association is recognised by VU Amsterdam. You can submit a request for recognition to the Student Support Regulation.

Familiar organisation

Student engagement

Student associations that do not meet the requirements of the Student Support Regulation to become a recognised student organisation, but still want to make use of a number of benefits, can submit an application to become a familiar organisation within VU Amsterdam. Benefits include being mentioned on the list of recognised student organisations, a discount on meeting room reservations within VU Amsterdam and financial support for specific activities at VU Amsterdam. Student associations can submit an application to become a familiar organisation within VU Amsterdam. There is no deadline.
Study associations can submit an application to become a familiar organisation within VU Amsterdam. Study associations can reserve meeting rooms free of charge through their faculty secretariat. The Faculty Board is responsible for their workspace. In case of any requests regarding study associations, students will be referred to the Faculty Board.

For more information, please send an email to studentengagement@vu.nl.

New associations

Since there are already a lot of associations in Amsterdam, we ask you to join existing associations. However, if you have an idea for a new association that differs from existing ones, you are free to set up your own association. You can start by writing an implementation plan and a constitution, choosing a board and registering the association with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce KVK. You can then organise activities and recruit new members. For more information, please send an email to studentengagement@vu.nl.

Student initiatives

Does your association have a great idea through which you want to contribute to the wellbeing of VU students? Or does your association want to organise an activity to stimulate diversity or community building at VU Amsterdam? Submit your application for a student initiative to see if you could get financial support to realise your initiative! There is no deadline for submitting student initiatives.
