What can you do with it?
Your student card (in combination with your Declaration of Registration) proves that you are a student at VU Amsterdam. With it you can:
- take out books from the University Library;
- identify yourself during exams;
- scan, print and copy at the multifunctionals. In order to print, copy or buy something at a vending machine, you first need to activate and top up your student card.
Please note that you do not necessarily need your student card to follow your classes.
-
When will you receive it?
First-year students will receive a student card in September, after completing their enrolment and uploading a passport photo. This will be sent to the correspondence address that is known to VU Amsterdam. If you have a non-Dutch address registered, you will receive an e-mail when it is ready to be picked up at the VU Student Desk. Make sure the address is up to date in Studielink or VU.nl. For any questions about the student card, please contact the Student Desk.
You receive the student card only once and keep it for the rest of your educational programme at VU Amsterdam.

What to do in case of loss or theft?
In the event of loss or theft you can apply for a new student card at the Student Desk in the Main Building for a small fee (€7,50). This fee can only be completed with a Dutch debit card (Maestro). In June, July and August no student cards can be requested for the current academic year. Once you are re-enrolled, you can request a new student card for the next academic year.

Secondary subject students
As a secondary subject student you do not get a VU Amsterdam student card. You can take out books and participate in exams with the student card from your own institution in combination with the Declaration of Registration of VU Amsterdam. You can also use the machines, coffee machines and printers without a student card.

Contract education students
If you are a contract student, you will not receive a student card or a proof of enrolment. If you wish, you can buy a card at the University Library. Contract students in Medicine and part-time students in the Marketing and Business Administration Master's programme will receive a student card and a Declaration of Registration.
