DataverseNL
Together with DANS, the VU Research Data Support team and the Library of the PThU organised a workshop to inform researchers and staff about the ins and outs of DataverseNL. During this workshop, participants learn about the application’s features, how to use DataverseNL, and for which data working with DataverseNL is most suitable. Besides an introduction, these workshops offer hands-on training by DANS-experts, and conclude with time for questions.
These are introductory course for all VU and PThU researchers, research assistants and data stewards, no prior knowledge is needed. For further information, please contact Stephanie van de Sandt at s.van.de.sandt@vu.nl.

Write a data management plan
A Data Management Plan (DMP) serves as a guide for all types of research and data collection. It assists in planning the data collection and organisation, and helps in paying attention to certain regulations, law, licenses and ethical guidelines. See the Write a DMP page for more information, or contact rdm@vu.nl if you don't have a VUnetID.

Training days
Expertise in RDM and OS are distributed across several parts of the VU. To keep colleagues up to date on each other's expertise, every summer and winter the Training Days are organised.
We are now working on the new coming Summer Training Days. For further information or questions, send an email to: Lena Karvovskaya at e.karvovskaya@vu.nl or Stephanie van de Sandt at s.van.de.sandt@vu.nl. -
Data conversations
The monthly VU Data Conversations are intended for VU Amsterdam researchers, students, support and management staff, data stewards and data specialists. The goal of these meetings is to create a space for knowledge sharing between different faculties and disciplines.

CodeRefinery workshop
Familiarise yourself with tools & practices to improve your scientific software development skills!
This course does not teach a programming language, but teaches the tools you need to do programming well, and avoid common inefficiency traps. The tools are practically a requirement for any scientist that has to do their own programming. The main focus is on using Git for efficiently writing and maintaining research software. For more information, contact Stephanie van de Sandt at s.van.de.sandt@vu.nl or Meron Vermaas at m.vermaas@vu.nl.

Data Carpentries
This workshop teaches management and analysis of tabular data. They are hands-on trainings that cover best practices for data organization in spreadsheets, reproducible data cleaning using the tool OpenRefine, and gives an introduction to data analysis and visualization using the programming language R. For more information, contact Stephanie van de Sandt at s.van.de.sandt@vu.nl or Meron Vermaas at m.vermaas@vu.nl.

Software Carpentries
Software Carpentry workshops aim to help researchers get basic research computing skills. These hands-on workshops will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation.
Specifically, Carpentry workshops cover working with Shell, Git, and basic programming with either Python or R.
Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems. This is an introductory course aimed at researchers who have little to no prior programming experience. For more information, contact Stephanie van de Sandt at s.van.de.sandt@vu.nl or Meron Vermaas at m.vermaas@vu.nl.
