You study the theoretical backgrounds of history and broaden yourself with electives. You will develop global perspectives on inequality, power, ecological changes, colonialism and decolonization, and the transnational formation of political, social, cultural and religious identities. You will also study the continuing impact of historical injustices such as colonialism and slavery.
In the second semester you will further specialize yourself, by choosing a tutorial, doing a small or large internship, learning a specific skill in the skills lab, and by writing a thesis on a subject of your own choice. Tutorials are small classes with a few fellow students on a specific topic. The international staff with various research projects and areas of expertise make it clear in which topics you can be tutored.
In the Skills Lab, you choose a skill that will help you in your research. Think of digital research methods, methods of oral history, methods of intellectual history, and the analysis of specific source material.
