The language of science

Your Mathematics degree can take you in many different directions

Your analytical mind and problem-solving skills will make you a valuable asset for all kinds of employers. In turn, you’ll enjoy job flexibility, freedom, autonomy and the satisfaction of contributing to tomorrow’s society.

Professional mathematicians work in fields as diverse as research, education, business, finance, technology, data science, healthcare and many other sectors, in positions as modellers or analysts, for instance.

If passing on your knowledge to the next generation is something that inspires you, then you can choose the Education Specialisation to get a science teacher degree. Due to the shortage of certified science teachers and the fact that our economy is knowledge-based, your skills will be highly valued both inside and outside the classroom, for example as content creator for online platforms.

To have a look at stories of professional mathematicians in the job market, check https://www.mathness.nl/ (in Dutch).

What can you do after your Master's degree?

Start working

Alumni from the programme have landed jobs at consultancies, banks, academic institutions, research & development companies, insurance firms, the Dutch Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) and data-science companies like Google, Yahoo or Booking.com. Whatever you choose, we can guarantee it won't take you long to find a job.

Start a PhD research project

An academic career is open to you in several research areas, because mathematics is the language of science. If you graduate with excellent grades, you’re encouraged to apply for one of our PhD positions. The first year will be mainly spent complementing your theoretical knowledge and preparing the ground for your research. After that, you’ll develop and carry out your own research project and write your PhD thesis.
