Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (pre-master's programme)

This pre-master’s programme introduces you to Bioinformatics and System Biology on the basis of examples from scientific research.

You will have the opportunity to learn essential skills, depending on your background. For example, if you have a Bachelor’s in Biology, you will learn programming. If your background is in Computer Science, you will learn Biology and Mathematics. Mathematics students will follow biology and programming courses.

A course package of up to 30 ECTS will be compiled for you. The courses are in the first semester of the academic year. Successful completion of the pre-master’s, allows you to enrol in the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Master’s programme.

The course package depends on the three key preparatory subjects that you need to complete. For most students, the pre-master’s programme is identical to the BSc Minor Bioinformatics and Systems Biology.

  • Research Questions in Bioinformatics

Depending on your background,  you may also need the following courses:

  • Calculus
  • Introduction to Programming in Python
  • Biochemistry
  • Linear Algebra
  • Evolutionary Genetics
  • Introduction to Data Science
     

For a full list of courses, please see all compulsory and optional courses in the BSc minor programme. The pre-master consists of 30 EC.
