Transform creative ideas into successful business ventures

Develop the right skills for the employment market

The knowledge you gain from this minor is extremely valuable in today’s labour markets because career success increasingly depends on your capacity to be proactive, promote change, and pursue new entrepreneurial initiatives that create economic and social value. Specifically, completing the minor will allow you to better appreciate the different forms of entrepreneurship across various contexts, understand the distinct challenges faced by entrepreneurs, and find creative solutions for overcoming these challenges. Both startup and corporate entrepreneurs often struggle to launch and grow new business ventures such that knowledge about how to successfully develop new entrepreneurial initiatives is essential to any student.

Finally, you have the opportunity to take a 12 EC internship as part of the minor. If you choose this option you have to arrange your internship in either in periods 1 and 2, or in periods 2 and 3. In case you have questions about internships you can contact Career Services at the Faculty of Business and Economics. They can answer your questions and support you in the application process.

Overview courses

  • Foundations and Forms of Entrepreneurship

This course introduces you to the concept of entrepreneurship, its role and importance in our society, and the process by which entrepreneurs transform new ideas into business ventures. You learn to apply basic theories from economics, sociology, and psychology to study key topics in entrepreneurship.

  • Sustainable Entrepreneurship

In this course, you become a “sustainable changemaker” by studying and practicing entrepreneurship in ways that can contribute to sustainable development. You will learn about the opportunities and practical challenges of sustainable entrepreneurship from different angles, including both (1) startup entrepreneurs, who launch ventures that either aim to tackle a particular sustainability problem or could benefit from a stronger sustainability focus; and (2) small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that often struggle to innovate their business models in ways that allow for balancing economic, social and environmental sustainability.

  • Enterprising Behavior

This course deals with the study and practice of entrepreneurial behaviour. You will learn about the six so-called entrepreneurial skills: imagining and recognizing opportunities, taking action, perseverance, networking, teamwork, and persuasion.

  • Entrepreneurial Strategy

This course provides an integrated strategy framework for growth-oriented entrepreneurs. The course is structured to provide a deep understanding of the core strategic choices facing startups, a framework for the development and implementation of entrepreneurial strategy in dynamic environments, and the ability to scale those ventures over time.

  • New Venture Creation

In this course, you work in a team to create a business plan that validates a business idea using the business canvas methodology. The teams will also present this business plan to a panel of experts, entrepreneurs, and investors.

  • Internship

It is possible to replace two of the courses for an internship that will be supervised by one of the lecturers of the courses. The courses to be replaced are one out of the two courses "Enterprising Behavior" and "Entrepreneurial Strategy" (both in period 2) in combination with either “Sustainable Entrepreneurship” (in period 1) or "New Venture Creation" (in period 3).
