Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) is a scholarly approach that emphasizes the systematic study, reflection, and sharing of teaching practices. It’s a way for educators to investigate the effectiveness of their teaching methods, gather evidence, and contribute to the broader knowledge base of teaching and learning. It can lead to a better understanding of how teaching and learning works in a specific context and help to spread innovations that are proven to work.

SoTL at VU
At the Vrije Universiteit, the Centre for Teaching & Learning (CTL) is at the forefront of SoTL. It supports faculty members in their exploration of innovative teaching strategies, encourages them to gather evidence about their teaching practices, and provides resources to help them disseminate their findings.
