You are aware of important societal challenges and the ways in which you as a heritage expert can contribute to solving them. You will be able to write, advise and moderate discussions about strategies for restoration, transformation and even demolition or abandonment of heritage sites. You are aware of the political aspects of heritage and are therefore well-equipped for working with citizens, spatial designers, planners, board members, politicians, entrepreneurs and other decision-makers in the spatial heritage arena.
Heritage meets past, present and future
Vail Zerr, student in Heritage Studies, class of 2021.
“I desire to investigate and revive components of our past while seeking to understand their implication in our world today.”
Vail’s curiosity for heritage and history in contemporary social and political contexts has driven her to study Heritage Studies at VU Amsterdam. After having studied Architecture in Canada, this programme stood out to her because of its interdisciplinary approach that acknowledges local and global perspectives.
