Onderwijs route Language and Preparatory Program Amsterdam

Language and Preparatory Program Amsterdam

The onderwijs (education) route of the Language and Preparatory Program Amsterdam consists of a starting interview, an orientation class and a follow-up course.

Starting interview
At the initial interview you will be introduced to VU Amsterdam and the campus. You will receive the schedule for classes in the orientation class. In some cases you will be offered an individual bridging program.

Thus, the first educational period is always the orientation class. After that you will do a follow-up program with a profile that suits your level and choice of study.

Orientation class
At four fixed times during the year you can start the orientation class that lasts 10 weeks. Each participant is supervised by a teacher-mentor.

In the orientation class you will receive many lessons in Dutch. You start with a personal development plan (POP). Together with the mentor you will research your wishes and possibilities. You will also get to know the city and the other educational institutions in Amsterdam.

The lessons are at the VU Amsterdam and at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA). At the end of the 10 weeks, your follow-up path will be determined at mbo, hbo or wo-level. With a course package that suits your choice of study. You will use your POP and receive advice from your mentor.

Follow-up course
In the first period you will have many Dutch lessons. In the next period you will start with the basic subjects English and mathematics. After that, you will be taught the tailor-made subjects. Depending on your chosen continuation path, these will be history, biology, physics and chemistry. Throughout the program, a lot of attention is paid to your learning skills and your choice of study program.

If you successfully complete this program, you will receive a Language and Preparatory Program degree and you can enter the program of your choice in September: an mbo, hbo or wo study.
