  • Workspace

    • Digital workplace

    • Facilities for people with a disability
The VU buildings and rooms are wheelchair-accessible.
There are parking spaces available for people with a disability in the vicinity of all VU buildings. In addition to that, every building, restaurant or library has at least one wheelchair-accessible entrance. All buildings have accessible toilets for people with a disability (on all floors), there are accessible places available in all classrooms (including adjustable furniture) and lockers are available on the ground floor of every building for disabled employees and students. Students and employees with a disability can apply for an elevator pass at the FCO Service Desk.

As an employee with a physical disability you can, after consulting with the department of Occupational Health and Safety, put in a request with the FCO Service Desk to have adjustments made to your workspace. All visitors, employees and students who are holders of a valid national handicapped parking permit can receive a (temporary) parking pass for VU Amsterdam locations.

  • Security

    • Important telephone numbers
In case of emergency, incidents and threats, including bomb threats, serious physical threats or a large-scale technical malfunction, call the VU emergency number: 22222 or 020 598 2222. Call the VU emergency number at all times, even when the national emergency number 112 has already been called. Security can then meet emergency service teams and take them to where they need to be. Stay with the victim until the ambulance arrives. Provide the necessary first aid; a first-aid officer is en route.

For theft or notifications where there is no direct threat, Security can be called (020-985854, via the Security Desk or via the reception desks at the VU buildings). The Security Desk is located in the basement of the Main Building (KC-04), next to the entrance to the restaurant. The Security Desk is manned 24 hours a day. During opening hours, the reception desks of all VU buildings are manned or there is a host present. You can contact them too.
    • Campus Safety Office and hotline for incidents
The VU Amsterdam campus safety office and hotline is there for both students and staff. Any reports of incidents of social injustice or physical abuse or injury, unsafe situations or threats made in person or online can be reported to this office or on this hotline and will be treated as confidential. Your report will help us take steps to prevent repeat offences. In emergency situations when help is urgently required, always call the VU emergency number: 22222 or 020 598 2222.

HRM, the department of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment and the Security department handle all reports. We draw up an anonymous report every year on the number of individual reports and the nature of the incidents. It may be possible that you would like to discuss your problem or complaint with somebody before taking action; in that case you could contact the confidential counsellor.
    • Privacy and integrity
As an employer, VU Amsterdam has access to its employees’ personal details. Upon commencement of employment, employees provide certain details such as their name, age and address. During their employment at the university, other details are also collected and processed. This includes details relating to their position, continuing education and work experience. These personal details are stored in various systems. The personal details of university employees are to be handled with diligence and care. The university endeavours to comply with all laws and regulations concerning the protection of personal details and privacy.
