Pathways
- Spark Sessions
Spark Sessions take place on a Wednesday from 12:00 until 13:00 several times a year. During these inspirational sessions, community members will be challenged to think about an aspect of teaching or PhD life. Topics that will be dealt with during these sessions might involve storytelling, supervising students, theatre skills, your identity as a teacher, assessments, and dialoguing with your supervisor.
On the dates and contact tab of this page is a list with all the topics and dates for you to join.
- BKO/UTQ
You can also work towards your UTQ/BKO certification in the community.
In addition to the Spark Sessions, you have the option to obtain UTQ (BKO) certificates in our BKO-flex programme. In this programme we'll emphasize the two key modules from the UTQ/BKO programme for PhDs: student supervision and teaching.
The Teaching module focuses on your direct contact with (groups of) students. In the two modules that encompass this competency, you will improve your knowledge and skills needed to support student learning with evidence-based didactical and pedagogical content. You will also become (more) aware of your own beliefs on teaching and learning and learn how to teach in alignment with those beliefs.
Information and registration Teaching module.
The Student Supervision module focuses on helping students who are writing their theses. In this module, you will learn how to improve the process of supervision, giving feedback to students, make appropriate interventions, and communicating in an effective way.

Both the teaching and student supervision modules cover 140 hours (or 5 ECTS) of contact hours, self-study time, and completing the assignments. The course will be taught in English and participants can use this course for their Training and Supervision Plan (or Opleidings- and Begeleidingsplan in Dutch).
