Registration
- You can only register for courses if the registration deadline is open.
- If you missed the deadline, please read the text below under the heading "Too late to register".
- Registration deadline not open? You can plan courses! Planning courses does not mean you are registered. You must do this yourself once the registration period is open.
- Find your study programme in the Study guide and see for which courses you need to register. For some courses and/or course events you will be registered by your Educational Office.
- Go to the registration module and make sure your course and academic year are correct.
- Look under "preselected courses" or search for the course. Select the course and the course events (lecture, seminar, etc.).
- When you register for a course, you also automatically register for the first exam opportunity.
- Do you want to register for courses outside your study programme? Then go to the heading "Registering for an extracurricular course".
On average, a study programme consists of 12 EC per period (or 6 EC in periods 3 and 6), which comes down to a study load of 42 hours per week. This is a combination of class hours, contact hours, and self-study hours. It is possible to take more ECs but this leads to a higher study load. Therefore, we advise you to discuss your planning with your academic advisor first.
NB. The above does not apply if your course entry and result registration do not take place via VU Amsterdam. For some study programmes or courses offered by VU Amsterdam a different registration procedure could apply as well. Check the Study guide to see whether this applies to your study programme or course. Also look at the bottom of this page under 'Registration conditions per faculty'.
Resits
- If you received a No Show (NS) for your exam, you have to manually register for the resit via the registration module at least 1 week before the resit takes place. For instance: you can register until Friday 15 December 23:59h for an exam held on Friday 23 December.
- If you did not pass the exam or received a NVD (requirements not met), you will be automatically registered for the resit.
- If you did pass the exam but still wish to retake it. You have to manually register for the resit; the last result obtained will count.
Deregistration and No Shows
If you no longer wish to participate in a course or exam, deregister within the deregistration deadline via the registration module.
- For courses, this is possible up to and including the first week of the period in which the the course starts. Click on 'Deregister' and confirm your deregistration, you are deregistered for the course and all course events.
- For exams and resits deregistration is possible until 1 week before the exam. Click on 'Edit' and uncheck the exam box. For instance: you can deregister until Friday 15 December 23:59h for an exam held on Friday 23 December.
Make sure you deregister in time. If you do not deregister in time, you will receive a No Show (NS) for the exam. The Teaching and Examination Regulations (TER) and Rules & Guidelines (R&R) of your programme and faculty determine what the consequences are. For more information on the OER and R&R, go to Examination Board.
