The academic advisor can assist you with study-related questions, such as questions about your study planning. All conversations are strictly confidential.

The academic advisor is there to help enrolled VU Amsterdam students only. If you are looking for a study programme and need help, please consult our information activities that can help you choose the right programme. It also provides contact details should you have questions.

The academic advisor supports you

You can consult the academic advisor for all study-related questions. Also for personal tutoring and practical study advice you can reach out to the academic advisor. See below what questions you can ask your academic advisor. All conversations with the academic advisor is strictly confidential. During the meeting the academic advisor will take notes in the Digital Student Dossier, which is only accessible to the academic advisor and to yourself.

We strongly recommend you to discuss any questions and/or problems as soon as possible!
The academic advisor is there to listen to you, is often able to answer your question(s) and is happy to help you in finding possible solutions for problems. If the academic advisor is not able to help you directly, s/he can often refer you to another person or organisation within or outside VU Amsterdam for further guidance or support.

Personal (special) circumstances

- Student Desk
  For general questions about registering for courses, graduating, lists of grades, (declaration of) registration for your degree programme, tuition fees, financing your studies etc.
- Canvas
  For the layout of tutorial classes, check the relevant course.
- Timetable
  You can find your schedule on rooster.vu.nl.
- Study guide
  Information about your study programme and practical matters about an internship or graduation project.
- International Office
  Practical matters about studying abroad are handled by the Outgoing Student Exchange Team (outgoing@vu.nl).
- Student counsellors
  For support with confidential matters not related to the content of your study programme, such as (legal) regulations and procedures, (de)registration issues, DUO facilities, urgent housing, the Student Support Regulation and other (financial) provisions.
- Student psychological counsellors
  For psychological help. In that case, always make an appointment with a academic advisor as well to discuss your study progress. This may be relevant for your BSA and the Profile Fund.
- VU Career Services
  For all questions related to your future career.
- Examination Board
  Extra exam opportunity, request for a course replacement, extension of validity of results, exemption for a course, elective space, etc.
